Career Coaching Guides for Decisions, Transitions, and Fit

Use these career coaching guides to clarify the decision you need to make, compare relevant experience, and ask better questions before hiring a coach.

Career coaching can cover several different jobs: choosing a direction, preparing for a transition, improving a job search, developing leadership skills, or creating accountability around a plan. The right comparison starts by defining which job you need help with.

Use this collection to turn a broad feeling of being stuck into a specific decision, then evaluate whether a coach's background, method, and engagement structure match that decision.

Separate the decision from the emotion around it

Write the decision in one sentence: stay or leave, choose between two paths, prepare for a promotion, return after a break, or test a business idea. Then list the evidence you need, the constraints you cannot ignore, and the date by which a decision becomes useful.

Coaching may help structure reflection and action. It should not replace licensed mental-health care, legal advice, financial advice, or specialist recruiting services when those are the real need.

Compare relevant experience, not just years

Ask what kinds of career decisions the coach has supported, what their own professional background contributes, and how they adapt their process when a client has limited time, money, mobility, or confidence.

Years in practice are context, not a result guarantee. A shorter-tenure specialist with direct experience in your problem may fit better than a long-tenure generalist whose examples do not match your situation.
