The Australian Bureau of Statistics' Greater Perth Greater Capital City Statistical Area is a broad socioeconomic region built from whole statistical areas and includes surrounding places with strong links to the capital. Western Australia's Metropolitan Region Scheme uses another statutory planning boundary stretching from Two Rocks to Singleton and east to The Lakes. These geographies must not be treated as interchangeable.
The 2021 Census counted 2,116,647 usual residents in Greater Perth, and the ABS estimated 2,192,229 residents for that GCCSA at June 2021.
