Sydney is the capital of New South Wales. The City of Sydney council says its local area covers about 26.15 square kilometres and lists the suburbs and urban places it serves. That council boundary is much smaller than Greater Sydney. This page uses Sydney as the city route, but evidence from the council, New South Wales, or Australia is labeled at its proper level.
