The City of Sarajevo's official portal defines the city as a local-self-government unit consisting of four municipalities: Stari Grad, Centar, Novo Sarajevo, and Novi Grad. Sarajevo Canton is a larger governmental layer with nine municipalities and its own ministries, development institute, employment service, and strategy. The urban area may be discussed even more broadly in everyday speech. This route is legitimate for the current city, but any canton figure, program, or service must be labeled as canton-level rather than city inventory. A coach's claim to know Sarajevo should identify the municipality and institutional layer involved.
The Sarajevo Canton Development Strategy 2021–2027 addresses competitiveness, employment, entrepreneurial infrastructure, education, public services, and other priorities.
