Pingdingshan is a Henan prefecture-level city created as an industrial centre, but this route must not be read as a claim about every place under that name. The municipal government reports four districts—Xinhua, Weidong, Shilong, and Zhanhe—four counties, and the county-level cities of Wugang and Ruzhou across 7,910 square kilometres. Its current overview reports 4.876 million residents at the end of 2024. Ruzhou, Wugang, an outer county, a mining community, and the main urban area have different travel, institutions, employment, and daily conditions. Municipal figures below remain municipal; none identifies an individual's worksite or neighbourhood.
Official city material describes Pingdingshan as a resource-based industrial city with coal, salt, iron, energy, chemical, and related activity. The 2024 statistical bulletin reports 75,000 new urban jobs, 21,100 unemployed people re-employed, and 5,869 people in employment-difficulty categories entering employment across the municipality. Those administrative totals are not live vacancies, retention results, wage offers, safe working conditions, or predictions for a particular person.
