La Romana is a current Dominican city, the seat of La Romana Municipality, and capital of La Romana Province. The 2022 national census makes the layers visible: it reports 139,238 people for the La Romana urban locality, 153,241 for the municipality including the Caleta municipal district, and 287,914 for the province, which also includes Guaymate and Villa Hermosa.
