The route retains the legacy transliteration irakleion, while the visible title uses Heraklion (Irákleion). The current Municipality of Heraklion is a local authority on Crete and is not equivalent to the Heraklion regional unit or the whole island. Its English administration page states the municipality's local-government role across economic, cultural, environmental, and social development. That institutional description does not define a labor market or guarantee access to a service. ELSTAT identifies Irakleio as a municipality in its census publications, with a named 2021 resident denominator. Any island, regional-unit, urban, visitor, airport, or tourism evidence must keep its own scope and date.
