Hamadan, also transliterated Hamedan, is the capital city of Hamadan Province in western Iran. A World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Health Journal paper identifies that city-and-province relationship, while UNESCO's Hegmataneh listing locates the archaeological site in the center of modern Hamedan. Those sources resolve this route's present geography.
