This route refers to Cotabato City, not Cotabato Province, South Cotabato, or a general Cotabato area. The Philippine Statistics Authority's current geographic classifications place Cotabato Province in Region XII and show Kidapawan as that province's only city, while separate statistical releases explicitly exclude Cotabato City from Region XII totals. Current Bangsamoro government material identifies Cotabato City as the regional seat of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, or BARMM. It is also distinct from Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur. A province statistic, a program in one of those provinces, or a Region XII total cannot be relabeled as an exact Cotabato City fact.
Governance has changed and dates matter. Bangsamoro sources describe the national government's formal turnover of Cotabato City to the autonomous region on December 15, 2025 and current transitional governance in 2026.
